Janice Waddell, California State Director for USDA Rural Development

Janice Waddell was appointed to California State Director on December 13, 2015. She has more than 34 years of experience with Rural Development and its predecessor agencies, most recently serving as Assistant to the State Director. In that capacity she was closely engaged in the Obama Administration’s Public Private Partnership Initiative, as well as border initiatives. Janice concurrently served as Native American Coordinator where she instituted new outreach efforts to California’s Native American Tribes. Prior to that, she spent 19 years as Community Programs Director for California where she delivered more than $1.2 billion in funding for improvements to water and sewer systems, and facilities for public safety, healthcare, and childcare among others projects.

Janice completed a degree in agriculture economics from Penn State University. She lives in Davis, California with her husband Mike Jones.
